Superfood Tomatoes!
Did you know that tomatoes are a superfood?
Like potatoes, tomatoes are high in heart-healthy potassium. Tomatoes are also an excellent source of an antioxidant called lycopene.
Lycopene is a carotenoid that helps get rid of "bad" cholesterol, keeps blood vessels open, and lowers heart attack risk. Tomatoes are low in calories and sugar, so don't subtract from an already healthy diet.
An unlikely member of the superfoods club, tomatoes are also high in vitamins A, C, and E. These vitamins are considered the best possible cancer-fighting vitamins that a food can contain.
As is the case with most superfoods, organically-grown tomatoes are the most effective in providing these nutritional benefits as there is less chance of them having been contaminated with toxins along the production chain.
