Recognise Unhealthy Relationships
Toxic Relationships: knowing when a relationship is no longer serving you.
Relationships are never perfect, and they all have their ups and downs. However, it's unfortunate that not all of them are meant to last long-term. A healthy relationship should make you feel secure, happy, cared for, respected, and free to be yourself. If you're unsure whether your relationship is headed in the right direction, here are some warning signs to watch out for:
- Feeling drained of energy after an interaction.
- Lack of trust.
- Constant undertone of anger or hostility from one or both parties.
- Persistent unreliability.
- Ineffective communication.
- One person only cares for their own well-being.
- Mutual avoidance.
- Control issues.
- Self-betrayal or changing opinions to please someone.
- Feelings of unworthiness.
- Jealousy or envy.
- Feeling like you can't say "no" or have control over your own life.
If you notice any of these signs in your relationship, it's a strong indicator that changes need to be made. If you've already tried communicating your concerns, seeking the help of a counsellor may be necessary. If you feel that continuing the relationship will only cause more stress, don't be afraid to distance yourself from the other person. So that you know, doing that will give you the space and time you need to process your true feelings.
